Together we make the local water cycle complete again!

For decades, rainwater has been disconnected by means of wadis or infiltration facilities. We are convinced that you should first see whether you can use rainwater to preserve the greenery before you infiltrate or drain it.

In addition to flooding, we have increasingly been confronted with heat stress in recent years. Greening public spaces, especially through trees and shrubs, is a proven solution for this. But how do you ensure that everything stays green? This is one of the major challenges in the field of future-oriented water management.
Disrupted water cycle
ACO has a lot of experience in public spaces. “We see here that blue-green infrastructure is becoming increasingly important, especially in light of the consequences of climate change.” These are the words of Rieks Hulst, product management and marketing manager at ACO. “During extreme rainfall, the existing infrastructure often has difficulty collecting and draining large quantities of water. This can lead to flooding and pollution. On the other hand, during warm periods there is a lack of water in the natural water cycle, because rainwater that has fallen has long since infiltrated or evaporated.”
Don’t infiltrate, irrigate
For decades, rainwater has been disconnected by means of wadis or underground infiltration facilities. The disadvantage of this is that new greenery is not of much use. This water is often much too deep for the young roots. “We are convinced that it is important to first see whether you can use rainwater to preserve greenery before you infiltrate or drain it.”
Fully automatic rainwater system in practice
“One of our most talked-about is the project in Raalte, where we installed a fully automatic rainwater system. Water is collected in linear gutters, after which it is purified and collected in an underground water buffer. Based on moisture sensors in the ground and the current weather forecast, water is then given or not. This saves the municipality a lot of time, water and costs. And these are important gains in these times of climate change.” At ACO we help you complete the circle again.
