The Netherlands is home to approximately 15,000 clean and waste water pumping stations with more than 135,000 pumps, switch cabinets, float valves, etc. After renovation, these often end up in waste containers, resulting in an annual waste mountain of more than six million kilos of material.

“The Netherlands aims to be completely circular by 2050 and to run on the reuse of raw materials. Standing still is not an option, as we have to be at 50% in six years. With these amounts of waste, action is needed now!” says initiator Franjo Stakovic.

Partner of Circogemaal, Jan van Doorn (GMB), adds: “More and more clients are striving for the 2030 target. We also see this reflected in applications and framework agreements as an obligation, but how do we achieve this?”
Wim Osseweijer from REMONDIS Smart Infra B.V. emphasizes: “A good conversation or a slick PowerPoint does not provide a concrete interpretation. At Circogemaal we offer the circular end-to-end care that closes the product cycles. In addition, we provide transparency of the achieved circular results through a clear overview. report.”
Circogemaal partner Hidde Kriele of Mous Waterbeheer says: “Circogemaal is the only circularity platform specifically for pumping stations. Because circularity is one of our most important pillars, the knowledge and expertise of Circogemaal is crucial. With the leaders of Circogemaal, we have full confidence that this theme receives the attention and energy needed to ensure that the municipality and water boards are successful in circularity.”

Circularity is a collective effort, and by bundling knowledge and expertise from municipalities, water boards and Circogemaal partners, the platform offers an innovative and practical implementation that maximizes the lifespan of sewage pumping stations.
